Poplar Grove Road is reopened, that as utility crews put up a new power pole wires downed by an early morning wreck.  The crash occurred at about 1:45 this morning, as 22-year old Brent Michael Decker of Thomasville, an ASU student, came to the Poplar Grove curve and just went straight, according to Boone Police, who said his ’97 Subaru hit the power pole 10 feet off the road before his car crashed into a parked car at 480 Poplar Grove Road.  Boone Fire, Police, New River Light & Power and Watauga Medics called to the scene to deal with the incident, and Boone Police closed the road from the connector to Bodenheimer Extension, the cut-through from Poplar Grove to Bodenheimer Drive.  Officer Neil Long said that Decker suffered no injuries in the crash but was checked out before being taken to the magistrate’s office, where Decker was charged with DWI, then was sent to jail under a contempt of court charge for comments made to the magistrate—an immediate 7-day jail term. Brent Michael Decker also was found to have an outstanding warrant from Guilford County for Injury to Real Property, and was served with that while in custody.
