In light of recent events, in which the Freedom High School Baseball Team had equipment stolen, the Hickory Crawdads have stepped up to help! In conjunction with the Crawdads parent club, the Texas Rangers, the Crawdads have donated two full sets of
catchers gear, helmets, baseballs and a fungo bat to help the Freedom Patriots recover. Crawdads General Manager Mark Seaman and Conrad the Crawdad took a trip to Freedom High School this week to meet Principal Dr. Ken Prichard and Head Baseball Coach Clint Zimmerman.
"We really appreciate the Crawdads generosity in this matter," Zimmerman said. "The kids are really going to benefit by having this equipment. I think it speaks volumes about the Crawdads organization and their commitment to helping out a local high school in need."
The Patriots will start the season on Tuesday, Feb. 28, when they visit Newton-Conover. The home opener for Freedom will be the following day, Wednesday, Feb. 29, when they host East Burke in a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m.
"It's a shame that someone would steal their equipment with a total disregard of how it affects these kids," said Seaman. "We're just glad that we, along with the Rangers, were able to help out and donate some of the items they needed. We know they'll put the equipment to good use."
