The Lenoir-Rhyne University Men's Lacrosse Team (0-1) team began its 2012 campaign with an 11-8 setback to Belmont Abbey College (1-0) Saturday afternoon at Moretz Stadium. Belmont Abbey was led by Ryan Corrigan's (Elliott City, Md.) three goals while

For Lenoir-Rhyne, sophomore Sam Ashton (New Market, Md.) scored three times while senior Edward Guerin (Jupiter, Fla.) assisted on two of the Bears' goals despite the loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne scored the match's first two goals within 34 seconds of each other for a 2-0 advantage.  Ashton scored unassisted at the 12:46 mark of the first half before sophomore Corron Boston (Durham, N.C.) scored to give the Bears the 2-0 lead.
L-R opened up a 5-1 lead at the end of the first period with sophomore Gus Ratcliff (Severna Park, Md.) and Ashton scoring in the first stanza's final minute.
Belmont Abbey, however, recovered and scored five unanswered goals in the second period for a 6-5 lead entering halftime.  Brendan Rogers (Sayville, N.Y.) scored twice in the frame for the Crusaders.
After Ashton scored his third and final goal to give the Bears an 8-7 lead just 38 seconds into the fourth period, Belmont Abbey took control by scoring the match's final four goals.  An own goal by the Crusaders proved to be the game-winner.
Belmont Abbey held a 32-27 advantage in shots taken while Lenoir-Rhyne had a 34-27 edge in ground balls.
Lenoir-Rhyne next competes against Queens at home next Saturday beginning at 2 p.m.  Belmont Abbey plays at Wingate on Wednesday, February 22, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
