Watauga Family Escapes Fire, Home Destroyed PDF Print

A family of four escaped with their lives—but little else in an overnight fire in the Rominger area.  Shawneehaw, Cove Creek, and Foscoe firemen spent the night battling the house fire that totaled a 2733 Laurel Creek Road home.  The fire call came in at about 1:20 this morning as a fully-involved structure fire, that after a small girl woke with her room full of smoke, and she woke her father who got the family outside. Shawneehaw fire officials said the fire was already through the wall and was burning outside when the family escaped, the dad returned to the house to find it nearly fully involved in a very short time.  No injuries were reported in the fire or firefighting effort, but the Red Cross had to be called in to aid the Proctor family, who lost most everything.  The 100-year old frame house was a total loss, and the family—parents, son and daughter, with no insurance—lost everything, including, it appears, some family pets.  Anyone wishing to help should contact the American Red Cross.
