WHS Grapplers Finish Fifth At NW3A/4A Meet PDF Print

The Watauga High wrestling team turned in a fifth-place finish on Saturday at the Northwestern 3A/4A Conference meet at Alexander Central High in Taylorsville. The Pioneers also produced four place finishers, including one champion in the field. Demetre Kostis won the title at

132 pounds; Mark Townsend at 106 and Gus Coffey at 113, both finished third; Jake Page captured fourth at 160 pounds. Up next, the Class 4A Western Regional, February 17-18.
Also congratulations to John Mark Bentley and the Appalachian State wrestling team. The Mountaineers defeated Chattanooga 21-17 Sunday afternoonm handing the Mocs their first Southern Conference loss since 2004. Kyle Blevins settled the issue by winning the final match of the day at 165 pounds. More details will be available later on gbr as they develop.
