Appalachian State University women’s basketball will host its annual “Pink Zone” game when it takes on Southern Conference foe UNC Greensboro at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11 at the Holmes Center. The fundraiser,

which will help support the WBCA Kay Yow/Play 4 Kay Cancer Fund, is a collabrative effort with over 1,200 colleges and universities across the nation to raise awareness and money in the fight against breast cancer.
All fans are encouraged to wear pink for the game to show their support in the efforts to fight the disease.
This year’s ASU “Pink Zone” game will feature a variety of fundraising initiatives including t-shirt sales, auctions and the ever-popular “Mountaineer Jail Bail”.
During halftime of the preceding men’s basketball game against Wofford, Appalachian State head coach Darcie Vincent will be placed in “jail” until donations to the Play 4 Kay Cancer Fund reach her set bail limit.
Tickets for the doubleheader, which begins with the men’s game at 2 p.m., will be given to local breast cancer patients, doctors, nurses and survivors.
Appalachian State will be selling  “Pink Zone” t-shirts and other related items at the ASU Bookstore and online at In addition to those sales, the Mountaineer women’s basketball coaching staff will donate $1 for each student in attendance who wears pink to the game.
The team will wear commemorative pink warmup t-shirts with each player’s name and number prior to the contest with the shirts auctioned off on the concourse following the game. The highest bidder receives the shirt and all proceeds will go directly to to the Kay Yow/Play 4 Kay Cancer Fund.
ASU men’s basketball head coach Jason Capel and women’s head coach Darcie Vincent will also have their t-shirts made available for auction.
The Apps will also partner with the American Cancer Society to host several events on the concourse throughout the game. The events include t-shirt sales, a silent auction, face painting, inflatable games, the “Prettiest in Pink” contest, Pass the Bucket donation collection and the Mountaineer Jail Bail.
All breast cancer patients and survivors in attendance will be reocgnized during a ceremony at halftime. To register to be recognized at halftime, please fill out the registration form HERE.
