Four ASU students escaped a sinking car that ran off of Stadium Drive and crashed into the Duck Pond on campus.  The 11:15pm accident occurred as the car turned off of Rivers Street, but kept turning, according to one of the car’s occupants. Boone Fire used their snorkel truck to reach the car and attach a tow line for a Hampton’s wrecker to pull the car to the surface, then Boone Fire chained the top of the car for the lift over the wall at the pond.  ASU Police identified the occupants as driver Justin Ferrell, 19, and passengers Eric Hoithcuck, 19, Amy Birner, 18, and Kelsey Gantt, 18. Police estimated the speed at between 35 to 40 mph, and said alcohol or drug use was not involved. Ferrell was cited for careless and reckless driving.
