Huskies Down Forbush

The Ashe County High men's basketball team just keeps rolling along. Despite a three-point loss at Starmount last Friday night that derailed Ashe County's (17-2 overall; 11-1 Mountain Valley 1A/2A Conference) 14-game winning streak, the Huskies bounced back by knocking off Forbush 67-39 at the Dog Pound in West Jefferson.
Sam Gammons led the Huskies with 16 points, with 11 of those coming in the first half. Zeb Richardson poured in 12 points with ten rebounds and five blocked shots. The Huskies also maintained their grip on first place in the MVC. The Huskies, who defeated East Wilkes 67-38 Tuesday night, lead Wilkes Central (15-3; 10-2) by one game for first place; Starmount is in third place a game-and-a-half off the pace.
The Huskies travel to Alleghany Friday night. Wilkes Central, which plays Starmount at home Friday night, just got by Alleghany 61-60 Tuesday night.
In the women's game, Forbush staved off a huge comeback try by the Huskies and defeated Ashe County 58-47. The Huskies trailed 35-23 at halftime. MacKenzie Johnson led the Huskies (6-13 overall; 2-10 Mountian Valley 1A/2A Conference) with 16 points. Hannah Shipp had 15.
