Wide receiver Malachi Jones from Lawrenceville, GA., and Central Gwinett High School has verbally committed to play football at Appalachian State University next season. According to his coach Todd Wofford at Central Gwinnett, Jones, who put up some big numbers his

senior year, was sold on ASU because "they're moving to Conference USA in two seasons, and he wanted to be a part of that."
Jones stands 6-foot-1 and weighs 182 pounds. He runs a 4.50 in the 40-yard-dash. He also has a 37-inch vertical jump. Central Gwinett is also Jones' third high school in four years.
His older brother, T.J. Jones, a rising junior, and his father, Andre, who died in June of last year, both played at Notre Dame. His father was a linebacker for the Irish and played from 1987-90. He was taken by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the seventh round of the National Football League Draft.
Alabama, Georgia Tech, Tennessee, Auburn, Notre Dame and ASU were among the schools that showed interest in Malachi Jones.
National signing day will be held a week from Wednesday, February 1.
