Avery fire departments and EMS rushed into Mitchell County through the fog and drizzle yesterday morning to aid in the fighting of a fire and treat injured people just off US 19E.  The 8am call was to the Sunshine Hill Apartments at Biggerstaff Road and 19E, Mitchell dispatch reporting 5 injuries in the fire just outside Spruce Pine. What the injuries were was smoke inhalation suffered by residents of the assisted living facility, and by the time they got fresh air, no hospital treatment was needed.  Fire inspector Rob Michaeleski said that the fire started in a stove in one apartment, but that with smoke ejection, carpet and wall cleaning, everyone was back in their apartments today.
