The Watuaga High indoor track team produced two more state qualifiers Saturday at the Durham Striders Meet in Chapel Hill. Andrew Vandenberg turned in an eight-place finish in the 3200-meter run, completing the course in 9:57.61, and qualified for state. Josh Anderson
qualified by turning in a 16th-place finish in the 3200 (10:11.88).
Reid Harris had WHS's best showing of the day as he finished third in the pole vault with an effort of 13-feet, eight inches; Max Ruble finished seventh (13-2). Taylor Drummonds finished fifth in the women's pole vault with an effort of nine feet. Team wise, the WHS women finished 33rd with 1.5 points; the men were 29th with five points. But the Pioneers didn not field a full team because many of the athletes were sick, according to WHS coach Kevin Shaw.
And with the addition of Vandenberg and Anderson, the Pioneers now have 13 state qualifiers and two relay teams. The state finals will be held Saturday, February 11 at UNC-Chapel Hill.
