Appalachian State University’s Sarah Williamson has been named the Southern Conference’s Student-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday afternoon.
The junior claimed the 5000m run title at the Dick Taylor Invitational hosted by

North Carolina last Saturday.  Her time of 18:07.25 shattered her previous personal-best by 20 seconds.  She holds a 3.39 cumulative grade point average in health care management.
Williamson is the third ASU student-athlete to win the award in 2011-12, joining volleyball senior Maggie Seeds, who was honored by the SoCon in October and junior men’s basketball Nathan Healy, who earned the honor last week.  The Charlotte, N.C. native is the first track and field athlete to win the award in 2011-12.
Williamson and the Mountaineers return to action on Thursday for the Appalachian Split Meet at 3 p.m. at the Holmes Center.
