The Avery County Sheriff’s Office has charged a man with murder in the death of his six-week old son.  The investigation started with the death of a six week old infant December 21st, the incident at a residence outside the town of Newland in the Frank Fire District.  The deceased child was the six week old son of Jacob Michael Ollis of Avery County and Johnna Taylor of McDowell County, according to Sheriff Kevin Frye. The child was identified as Colton Ollis, according to the Johnson City Press.  Last Friday, a warrant was issued by the Avery County Magistrates Office charging twenty five year old Ollis with second degree murder, and Ollis was arrested on Saturday by the Carter County Sheriff’s Office where he also faces a Failure to Appear charge.  The Avery County Sheriff’s Office will seek extradition of Ollis as soon as the Failure to Appear charge is disposed in Tennessee.  After Ollis is brought back to Avery County the matter will be reviewed by the Avery County District Attorney’s Office for presentation to a Grand Jury.
