Trojans Rally Past Bobcats, 72-60 PDF Print

The Mount Olive College men's basketball team converted 21-of-25 attempts at the free throw line, and won the battle on the glass by a decisive margin en route to a 72-60 win over Lees-McRae College in Conference Carolinas play on Saturday night.
Mount Olive (9-6, 2-3 CC) shot

40.4 percent on the night, including a 52.6 percent clip in the second half, while Lees-McRae (3-10, 3-2 CC) posted a field goal percentage of 47.8 percent in the contest. The Trojans won the battle on the glass by a 34-26 margin, including a 13-8 advantage on the offensive boards, while converting 20 Bobcat miscues into 26 points.
Asad Lamot (Mebane, N.C.) paced the Bobcats with 20 points on the night, going 8-for-12 from the floor and dishing out a game-high six assists. DJ Brown (Anderson, S.C.) continued his hot shooting from three-point range, knocking down 5-of-10 attempts from downtown to post 15 points on the night. BJ Battle (Orlando, Fla.) and Jeremiah Henry (Semmes, Ala.) added eight and seven points, respectively, while DeAndre Tillman (Charlotte, N.C.) chipped in a team-high seven rebounds.
Ewon Wright led all scorers with 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting for the Trojans, knocking down 5-of-7 attempts from beyond the arc, while Derek Staton added 14 markers and four assists. Kason Cheeks chipped in eight points and a game-high nine rebounds for the Trojans.
Mount Olive jumped out to an early 9-2 lead on Craig Hayes' lay in at the 16:06 mark before the Bobcats responded, evening the score at 19-19 on a steal and a fast break bucket by Lamot with 6:43 left on the clock following a 17-10 run. After the Bobcats claimed a 30-27 lead on a Lamot triple at the 1:59 mark, Mount Olive closed out the half with a 6-3 spurt to even the tally at 33-33 heading into the intermission.
Neither team opened more than a two-point advantage in the second half until Mount Olive took control with an 11-3 run over a four-minute stretch, taking a 57-50 lead on a Hayes jumper with 6:31 to play. The Trojans' free throw shooting proved to be the difference over the final six minutes, as Mount Olive converted 13-of-16 attempts to close out the victory.
Lees-McRae returns to the court on Monday when the Bobcats travel to Bristol, Tenn. to take on King College in a conference matchup at 7:30 p.m.

Bobcats handle Lions in four sets

 

The Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team utilized a balanced attack and eight blocks en route to a 3-1 victory over the College of Mount St. Joseph on Saturday evening.
Lees-McRae (1-1) posted a .276 hitting percentage on the night, recording 71 digs and eight blocks, while limiting Mount St. Joseph (0-1) to a -.011 clip on the attack. The Bobcats won the match by scores of 25-10, 22-25, 25-20, and 25-17.
Matt Harpenau (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Sam Sheers (Centerville, Ohio) paced the Bobcats with eight kills each, while John Lucas (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Dylan Kembre (West Chester, Ohio) added seven and six smashes, respectively.
Randy Ramirez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) and Kembre posted 21 and 20 assists, respectively, while Efrain Negron (Orlando, Fla.) chipped in a match-high 22 digs. Lucas also added 11 digs and three blocks, while Harpenau and Joshua Jones (Christmas, Fla.) each posted three stuffs.
Brad Miller led the way for Mount St. Joseph with a match-high nine kills, while Nick Jennings chipped in a contest-best 23 assists. Miller and Luke Eschenbach added nine and eight digs each, while Eschenbach also posted six kills.
Lees-McRae returns to the court on Saturday, January 21 when the Bobcats host Lindenwood University at 7 p.m. in Williams Gymnasium.
