Capturing his second-straight monthly honors, ASU senior Austin Trotman (Winston-Salem, N.C./Mount Tabor) has been named Southern Conference Wrestler of the Month for

December, as announced by the league office on Wednesday.
Trotman went 8-1 in December to close out 2011, finishing the year at 16-1. The 184-pounder opened the month with a 9-4 decision over John Dickson at the team’s Virginia Tech dual to tally his 100th career victory, becoming the third Mountaineer to reach the century mark.
In the team’s SoCon opener against conference newcomer Gardner-Webb, Trotman earned a 2:17 pin to lead his team to a 41-2 victory. In his final dual of the month, the senior earned a 10-5 win over Ohio’s Ryan Garringer, improving his dual record to 4-0.
At the Reno Tournament of Champions, Trotman earned a 5-0 shutout of No. 17 Matt Ryan of West Virginia before suffering his first loss of the season to Wyoming’s No. 3 Joe LeBlanc. He concluded the day with two more wins, including a 4-1 decision over Binghamton’s Nate Schiedel to capture third-place in Reno.
After starting the season tabbed No. 14, Trotman climbed to No. 10 in December’s final InterMat Wrestling rankings. In the latest edition of the rankings, he is slotted No. 9 in the nation.
Trotman’s selection follows recognition as November’s Wrestler of the Month after posting an 8-0 mark to start the season.
The Southern Conference’s three December honorees highlight excellence among student-athletes across their respective sports. Athletes of the month are nominated by each member institution and selected by the conference office.
Chattanooga freshman Nick Soto was also nominated for the monthly award after earning an 8-2 decision over No. 4 B.J. Futrell of Illinois.
The Mountaineers head to Grand Prairie, Texas on Saturday to take part in the Lone Star Duals. The Apps are set to face Brown, Harvard, No. 12 Oklahoma and Utah Valley in the one-day dual-meet frenzy.
