Appalachian State women’s basketball player Anna Freeman has been named as the Southern Conference Player of the Month for December, the league office announced Wednesday.
Freeman, who surpassed the

1,000 career-point mark on Dec. 31 against Longwood, helped the Mountaineers to a 5-1 record during the month including a perfect 3-0 mark in SoCon play.
She averaged 18.7 points per game, including outputs of 25 and 24 points against Georgia Southern and UNCA, respectively and tallied four steals in four of five games.
Her 18-point effort against Longwood, which included three-straight three-point buckets, gave her 1,008 career points at the time and made her the 21st player in ASU history to accomplish the feat.
For the month, Freeman shot .451 percent (41-for-91) both overall and from beyond the arc. She also converted 94.4 (17-for-18)  of her free throws, snagged 39 rebounds, recorded 21 steals and dished out 14 assists.
The junior forward is currently averaging a team and SoCon best 17.5 points per game and has been even more impressive against conference opponents, averaging 19.6 points per game in five SoCon contests.
The award marks Freeman’s first ever Player of the Month honor and the first four a Mountaineer since Sam Ramirez earned the honor in November of last season. Freeman joins Ramirez and Kiki Conyers as the three ASU players to earn a monthly award since the SoCon began handing out Player of the Month honors during the 2004-05 season.
Appalachian State returns to action when it plays host to SoCon rival Davidson at 2 p.m. on Sunday inside the Holmes Center.
