Brown, Bobcats Sink Fleet In 82-68 Victory PDF Print

Junior DJ Brown (Anderson, S.C.) poured in a game-high 22 points, going a perfect 6-for-6 from behind the arc, to lead the Lees-McRae College men's basketball team to an 82-68 win over

Erskine College on Tuesday night in Conference Carolinas play.
Lees-McRae (3-9, 3-1 CC) posted a blistering field goal percentage of 62.2 percent in the contest, including a scorching 15-for-19 night from beyond the arc, while dominating the battle on the glass by a 31-16 margin. Erskine (3-10, 1-3 CC) had a superb night from the floor as well, posting a field goal percentage of 50 percent, while knocking down 10-of-19 attempts from three-point range. The Flying Fleet also converted 16 Bobcats miscues into 31 points, while the Bobcat bench held a 27-23 scoring edge.
Brown led all scorers with 22 points, going a perfect 6-for-6 from the floor (all from three-point range) and converting 4-of-4 attempts at the free throw line off the bench. BJ Battle (Orlando, Fla.) added 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting, including a perfect 3-for-3 night from downtown, as Asad Lamot (Mebane, N.C.) added 15 markers.
Daniel Sepokas (Illawong, Australia) and Jeremiah Henry (Semmes, Ala.) chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively, as Henry recorded a double-double with a game-high 11 rebounds. Corey Young (Bluff City, Tenn.) added a game-high six assists, while Sepokas chipped in five helpers of his own. Sophomore DeAndre Tillman (Charlotte, N.C.) also posted a contest-best three blocks for the Bobcats.
Corey Sorrell paced the Fleet with 21 points, going 6-for-11 from the floor and converting 7-of-11 attempts at the charity stripe. Mike Gabbard added 15 points and a game-high six assists, while Travis Liner chipped in 12 markers with a perfect 4-for-4 night from downtown. Sorrell also posted a team-high six rebounds.
The Bobcats rallied from an early 6-0 deficit in the first half, going on a 15-0 run to take a 15-6 lead on Battle's second three-pointer of the game at the 15:15 mark. Erskine countered with a 13-5 spurt, closing the gap to 20-19 on a Gabbard jumper before the Bobcats responded, closing out the period with a 25-12 run over the final 10 minutes to take a 45-31 lead into the intermission.
Erskine would answer in the second half, opening the period with a 20-13 run to cut the margin to 58-51 on Gabbard's layup with 10:39 to play. After the Fleet trimmed the lead to 64-59 on a Liner triple at the 6:28 mark, Young and Battle knocked down back-to-back three-pointers to stretch the lead to 70-59 with less than five minutes left on the clock. The Bobcats took control from there, closing out their third straight win with a 10-5 run over the last two and a half minutes of play to equal the final margin of 82-68.
Lees-McRae returns to the court on Saturday when the Bobcats travel to Mount Olive, N.C. to take on Mount Olive College in a pivotal conference matchup at 4 p.m.

Fleet Holds Off Bobcats, 67-60

 

The Erskine College women's basketball team placed four players in double figures, and held Lees-McRae College to a field goal percentage of 32.9 percent on Tuesday night en route to a 67-60 victory in Conference Carolinas play in Williams Gymnasium.
Erskine (4-8, 2-3 CC) shot 42 percent from the floor on the night, including a 45.8 percent clip in the second half, while limiting Lees-McRae (5-5, 1-3 CC) to a 32.9 percent mark in the contest. The Bobcats won the battle on the glass by a 45-41 margin, including a 19-7 advantage on the offensive boards, while converting 23 Flying Fleet turnovers into 21 points.
DeAnna Waters (Upper Marlboro, Md.) paced the Bobcats with a double-double, posting team-highs of 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Icey Patterson (Seneca, S.C.) added contest-bests of eight steals and seven assists; Patteson's steal total was also a career-high. Megan Tate (High Point, N.C.) chipped in 10 points, while Chloe Parker (Chicago, Ill.) and Kerri Belcher (Roanoke, Va.) each added six markers and seven boards.
Elizabeth Tatum poured in a game-high 20 points to lead the way for the Flying Fleet, while nearly recording a double-double with nine rebounds. Sha'Niqua Whitley added a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Jana Dixon chipped in a double-double of her own with 10 markers and a game-high 11 boards. Porsha Morgan also recorded 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting, while dishing out a squad-best five assists.
The Bobcats started off strong, taking an early 18-10 lead on a Parker jumper at the 7:05 mark before the Fleet responded with an 18-4 run, claiming a 28-22 advantage on Dixon's layup with 1:28 to go in the half. Erskine would take a 30-26 lead into the intermission following a last-second jumper from Waters that trimmed the margin to four.
The Fleet carried the momentum into the second half, opening the period with a 9-3 spurt to claim a 39-29 lead following a steal and a layup from Morgan at the 17:29 mark. Lees-McRae would answer with a 15-3 run, taking a 44-42 lead on a Tate jumper with 12:56 to play.
Erskine countered with a 14-4 surge of its own over the next three minutes, opening a 56-48 lead on Morgan's fast break layup at the 9:49 mark. The Bobcats would trim the margin to 56-51 before the Fleet regained control, pushing the lead to 64-52 following Tatum's jumper on the heels of an 8-1 run. Lees-McRae climbed back with an 8-0 spurt, closing the gap to 64-60 before Erskine closed out the win with a trio of late free throws.
Lees-McRae returns to the court on Saturday when the Bobcats travel to Mount Olive, N.C. to take on Mount Olive College in a pivotal conference matchup. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m.
