Former Pioneer Damian Edwards continued his stellar play Wednesday night for Emory & Henry College.

Watauga High last spring, played 34 minutes and scored 15 points in a 58-57 overtime loss to Guilford College in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference game in Emory, Va. Edwards was 9-28 from the floor, including 4-12 from the three-point line. He also had two assists and a blocked shot. Edwards has played in and started 11 games for the Wasps (6-6 overall; 0-4 in the ODAC) this season. He's averaging 12 points an outing.
Will Koppenhaver, a former Pioneers and a freshman at Guilford, did not dress for the Quakers.

HUSKIES RANKED SEVENTH IN CLASS 2A

The Ashe County High men's basketball team is off to a roaring start. The Huskies, who lost their season opener at East Surry way back on November 22, have reeled off 11 straight wins. The Huskies (11-1) knocked off North Wilkes 71-30 Wednesday night in Hayes, NC.
For their efforts, the Huskies are ranked seventh in the state in the NCPreps.com/High School Media Basketball Polls. West Stokes (6-2), which won the Frank Spencer Tournament in Winston-Salem during the Christmas holidays, is fifth in that poll. Wilkes Central is an Honorable Mention team in Class 2A. Hickory (12-2) is ranked ninth in the Class 3A poll; Freedom (13-1) is ranked fifth in that 3A poll. Mitchell (9-2) is ranked eighth in the Class 1A poll.
On the women's side, McDowell (11-2) is ranked ninth in Class 4A, T.C. Roberson (10-1)  is tenth; Hickory (13-1)  is No.1 in the Class 3A; Wilkes Central (11-0) is fourth in Class 2A; and AverY (7-2) is an Honorable Mention team in Class 1A.
