Marc Payne and the Ashe County High men's basketball team are on a roll.
Since they lost to East Surry on opening day (November 22), the Huskies have been invincible. And the Huskies (10-1) continued their

winning ways by nailing down the Colvard Oil Holiday Classic Thursday night at Husky Gym in West Jefferson.
Ashe County defeated Hibriten 60-52 to claim the championship. Zeb Richardson was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, and rightfully so. The senior, who poured in 22 points in a semifinal win against Northside Christian of Florida Wednesday night, followed that
up with a 21-point, 17-rebound performance in the finals against Hibriten. He also had five blocked shots. Sam Gammons finished with 13 points; Nehemiah Stafford had 12. Andrew Lopp had seven assists and four rebounds. Mike Burgess led the Panthers with 26 points.
Ashe County built a commanding 54-41 lead midway through the fourth quarter.

FOSTER WINS 200TH

Laura Foster has had quite a run as head coach of the Ashe County's women's basketball team.
She inherited a very young program that was looking for a direction, when she got there 12 years ago. And Foster, despite some bumps on the road, got the program turned around in a hurry.
Her teams reeled off six consecutive 20 win seasons, and Foster was reward for all of her hard work Wednesday night when the Huskies (4-7) defeated Hibriten 45-20, handing Foster her 200th career win. MacKenzie Johnson backboned the effort with 16 points.
Unfortunately, Foster was denied a shot at win No. 201 on Thursday night as the Huskies lost to Team Australia (Nunawading, a club team just outside of Melbourne) 58-36 in the championship game of the Colvard Oil Holiday Classic. Johnson led the Huskies with 15 points Thursday night; Hannah Shipp had eight points.
