Lees-McRae College senior Mary Dorn (Shallotte, N.C.) is the first player in the history of the Bobcat women's soccer program to earn a spot on the
North Carolina College Sports Information Association College Division all-State Women's Soccer team, announced NCCSIA officials Monday.
Dorn paced Lees-McRae (13-5-3) to one of the best seasons in program history this fall, as the Bobcats advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history after capturing the program's first Conference Carolinas regular season and tournament championships since 2000. The Bobcats posted a 13-5-3 overall record while going 11-1 in league play, setting a program mark for most conference wins in a season.
A native of Shallotte, N.C., Dorn continues to add to her individual awards bouquet from this season after receiving her third-straight all-Conference Carolinas selection, earning first team honors for the second consecutive year. Dorn was a tremendous part of the Bobcats' success this season, leading Lees-McRae to the conference regular season and tournament titles while helping the backline record 12 clean sheets. The 5-5 defender posted four goals and nine points this season, while also earning first-team all-region honors from both Daktronics and the NSCAA.
Lees-McRae is expected to return 17 letter-winners from this year's Conference Carolinas regular season and tournament championship squad, including Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year Meagan Thornton (Millville, N.J.) and sophomore forward MaryBeth Sullivan (Greensboro, N.C.).
