Three people, including a state trooper and a couple from Todd, were injured in a dusk wreck on US 421 in Deep Gap Sunday evening as the trooper was rushing to back up another trooper. The 5:30pm collision occurred at a cross-over of the divided highway near the top of a rise just past Brown Farm Road as David Holman was turning in the cross-over.

His Chevy SUV was struck in the rear by the cruiser of trooper Zack Jennings as he was responding emergency traffic to aid trooper Goldsmith in a traffic stop involving a felony suspect.  The collision flipped the SUV, injuring Holman and his wife, Sherry, but both were released from Watauga Medical Center Sunday evening.  1st Sgt. Gary McClelland said that there were questions as to when Jennings activated his blue lights while traveling emergency traffic to the scene. Both vehicles were heavily damaged in the wreck, and the probe into the accident would continue into the first of the week, according to Sgt. McClelland.
