WHS Track Competes At Liberty Invite PDF Print

The Watauga High men's and women's indoor track team competed at the Liberty Elite Invitational Saturday in Lynchburg, Va.
The WHS women were led b

 Darby Middlebrook, who turned in a second-place finish in the 3200-meter run. She completed the race in 10:59.73; Madison Harman finished fifth (11:36.90). The WHS women won the 4x800 relay (9:51.77, and that team consisted of Hannah Barbour, Darby Middlebrook, Hailey Middlebrook and Julia Roberts) and finished second in the 4X400 relay (4:15.97, Taylor Drummonds, Hailey Middlebrook, Julia Roberts and Anna Schulz Coulon).
On the men's side, Reid Harris turned in WHS's best effort of the day by finishing fourth in the pole vault. He cleared the bar with a personal-best effort of 14 feet. Austin Vegas of East Forsyth cleared the bar in fewer jumps and nosed out Jeffrey Linta of North Myrtle Beach to win the event with an effort of 15 feet. Zack Helms finished fifth in the 55-meter hurdles (8.32 seconds); WHS also finished fifth in the 4x400 relay (3:39.49, Zack Helms, Reid Harris, Bryan Brackney and Christian Backman).
WHS travels to Eastern Alamance for a polar meet on January 14.
