WHS Matmen Place Third At West Caldwell PDF Print

The Watauga High wrestling team turned in a solid effort on Saturday at the West Caldwell tournament in Gamewell.
The Pioneers produced seven place finishers and

four champions in the 12-team field. Teamwise, WHS finished third with 120.5 points. Gus Coffey kept his record unblemished by winning the championship at 120 pounds. Demetre Kostis captured the championship at 138 pounds; Jonah Critcher won the title at 182, and Mark Townsend won a championship at 106.
Jeremy Critcher finished third at 195; Tre Gubb (113 pounds) and Eli Hawley (132 pounds) both finished fourth.
"A great confidence booster for the kids," said WHS coach Todd Allan. "We were so close to bringing home some team hardware for the school."
The Pioneers only finished four points out of second place. WHS travels to Chapel Hill for the Tiger Holiday Classic December 28-29.
