Several Records Fall For LRU Swimming At SE Shark Invite PDF Print

The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's and Women's Swimming Teams broke several school records after the first day of the 2011 Nova Southeastern Shark Invitational Friday at

the NSU Aquatic Center in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. 
Both teams are also in sixth place after day one while Tampa leads both the men's and women's competition.
Two Lenoir-Rhyne records were broken in the preliminary round Friday morning. 
For the Lenoir-Rhyne men, junior Teddy Esch (Lenoir, N.C.) established a new mark in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:57.80) and freshman Chris Tilque (Charlotte, N.C.) swam a school-record 22.25 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle event.
In the finals Friday night, junior Alec Reitzel (Hickory, N.C.) broke a school record with a time of 1:57.02 in the 200-yard individual medley.
The Bears' 200-yard medley relay team of Tilque and freshmen Deaton Wright (Southern Pines, N.C.), Kyle Hites (Lenoir, N.C.) and Jay Stancliff (Advance, N.C.) established a new L-R record time of 1:39.06 on Friday night as well.
On the women's side, freshman Chelsea Kyle (Knoxville, Tenn.) set a school record in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:12.08.  Kyle finished eighth overall in the race as well.
The three-day invitational continues on Saturday for the second day before wrapping with the final day Sunday.
