There were a number of injury wrecks in the area yesterday, including two injuries—one critical—in a single-car crash yesterday morning in eastern Wilkes.  Emergency crews responding to an Elkin Highway wreck found a woman pinned in the vehicle, causing a call for a chopper, which landed near the scene while rescue crews worked to free the woman. The other injured was said to be ambulatory at the scene. A single-vehicle crash on George Wilson Road at dawn yesterday injured a man, but he refused transport by Watauga Medics.

A crash on the ASU campus yesterday mid-morning injured two, but both refused transport to the hospital. The crash occurred on Rivers Street at the entrance to the parking deck and involved two vehicles.  Boone Fire responded along with ASU Police to work the accident scene, which blocked through-campus traffic for a time.

And another Wilkes crash last night caused huge backups on US 421 east of Wilkesboro.  The state patrol said that neither Wilkes crash claimed lives at this point.
