After swearing in Council members Lynne Mason and Andy Ball to new terms and Allan Scherlen to his first term on Town Council the new Council’s first order of business was to shake up the old structure by electing Jamie Leigh as mayor Pro-Tem. Council Member Lynne Mason who had held the position for some time was nominated by Council Member Rennie Brantz, then, in what appeared as a surprise move, Council Member Andy Ball nominated Jamie Leigh saying, “Council member Jamie Leigh has committed her unique insight, her professional expertise, and her fair judgment to this council.”  The Council voted 3 to 2 in favor of Ms. Leigh with new Council member Scherlen’s vote being in favor of the change. Responding to queries during a break in the meeting Council member Leigh was grateful to the Council for their confidence and expressed appreciation to Council Member Mason for her service as Mayor Pro-Tem. Council Member Mason stated that she was somewhat surprised and was disappointed with the action. She had hoped to remain Mayor Pro-Tem and felt the decision was due to her position on some downtown issues earlier in the year. However, she committed to continue to work as hard as ever on improving the town.
