Blowing Rock Explores Grant to Upgrade American Legion Building PDF Print

A day after Boone began the process of planning for the restoration of the old Appalachian Theater, Blowing Rock held a public meeting last night to talk about the future of the American Legion Hall, now a part of the Parks and Recreation Department.  A Town Board representative and a number of others met in the facility to hear from a design expert from McGill and Associates on various ideas for the building, including a new entry way, rock work to replace brickwork, bringing bathrooms up to code, reroofing and new windows, and reconfiguring spaces.  The meeting was part of a process to obtain a grant to fund half the cost of the work—a recreation grant—with the town seeking to do $250,000 in work total with a $125,000 match, with hopes to add a large deck on the back, overlooking the lake at Broyhill Park.  The application process is now underway with hopes to know the results by summer.
