Watuaga High swimming coach David Gragg has announced that the Pioneers will not compete in
tonight's meet at St. Stephen down in Hickory due to inclement weather.
"I was fine with the school's decision," Gragg said. "The meet will just go on without us. Things are suppose to get a litte iffy up here tonight with the snow moving in. The real fear was the possibility of black ice. I know a lot of my parents were concerned, and so was the school. It was a good decision not to go."
The Pioneers will venture to Lenior-Rhyne University in Hickory next Wednesday, December 14 for their final meet before the Christmas break.
Also, the Avery County-Ashe County basketball games scheduled for tonight in West Jefferson have been called off because of weather issues. Those games will be made up Wednesday, January 4.
