CBS Sports is reporting that Larry Fedora has accepted an offer to become the new football coach at the University of North Carolina. Fedora spent the last four years at Southern Mississippi, where he led the Golden Eagles to a 33-19 record, including a school-record 11 wins this season. The 22nd-ranked Golden Eagles (11-2) knocked off unbeaten Houston in the Conference USA championship game last Saturday. The Tar Heels were looking for a permanent coach to replace Butch Davis, who was fired shortly before training camp amid an NCAA investigation into improper benefits and academic misconduct within the program. The school then promoted defensive coordinator Everett Withers to interim coach.
