The Watauga High men's and women's indoor track teams opened their respective seasons with a polar meet at

North Lincoln High School in Lincolnton, NC, Monday afternoon.
Both the men and women dominated the meet. The men won five events and bested the field with 75 points. Alexander Central finished a distant second in the four-team meet with 34 points. The women's meet was a little more competitive. The Pioneers nosed out Alexander Central 66-56 to win the meet.
Julia Roberts of the women's team captured centerstage as she won two events, the 500-and300-meter runs. She also qualified for state in the 500 by finishing the race in the blistering time of 1:21.5. She won the 300 in 45.2.
Kathleen Mansure won the women's 1,600-meter run (6:07.7); Taylor Drummonds won the 55-meter high hurdles in 9.5 seconds.

Fox To Sign With Brevard

Watauga High senior Amanda Fox, who is also the captain of the cheerleading team, will sign her National Letter of Intent with Brevard College on December 20.
Fpx tried out in October and made the team. And it could be a history-making event as Fox could be, to anyone's knowledge, the first WHS cheerleader to receive a cheerleading scholarship.
