"Feeling" Saves Valle Crucis House PDF Print

It was just a feeling Austin Wilson’s grandmother , Edith Coburn—she and his uncle Lannie Wilson had to go check on him in spite of the fog, rain, and dirt road to his Valle Crucis home.  They arrived just in time to save the rental house.  Lannie Wilson said they could see smoke coming from the 171 Boulder Shadow Lane home when they approached, and when they opened the door, there was a lot more smoke—and some fire into the paneling and around the flue from a wood burning stove.  Had they been much later, the house would have been well ablaze before anyone would have seen it.  Lannie Wilson said that Austin was not at home and hadn’t been seen in several days, and that his mother was trying to reach him, so they ventured out, discovering the fire just before 6pm.  Foscoe, Boone, Shawneehaw, and Cove Creek all sent firefighters and equipment to the scene, and controlled the fire in short order. Lannie Wilson said that the house was rented by Appalachian Management, the owner from the Charlotte area.  Watauga Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the fire and estimating damage.
