Two Hurt, DWI Charged in Boone Crash PDF Print

In the midst of the storm and flooding, a three-car wreck caused two slight injuries in a crash Boone Police said could have been much worse.  The 8pm crash occurred when a vehicle tried to make a left turn off Blowing Rock Road onto Rivers Street and slammed head-on into a VW Beetle.  The first vehicle, driven by 41-year old John Michael Patton of Boone, continued on some distance after the initial collision, spun totally around, and hit a Honda Accord that had been stopped behind the VW. Boone Fire first responders found Patton unconscious in his vehicle, but he soon regained consciousness.  He had suffered a face injury, as did the woman in the VW, but neither were transported by Watauga Medics.  Patton, however, was transported by Boone Police for blood and other tests after it was determined that he had been huffing fumes from a can of air, causing him to black out while driving.  It was also determined that his vehicle had hit a brick abutment in front of Martin Realty on Blowing Rock Road just before the three-car crash, a witness identifying Patton’s vehicle as the one involved in the hit-and-run, and he was cited for DWI, Hit and Run, and Failure to Reduce Speed.
