LRU Women's Win North Star Invitational Championship PDF Print

The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball Team (6-1) downed Alaska-Fairbanks (3-5), 57-44, Saturday on the last day of the Mt. McKinley Bank North Star Invitational at the Patty Center to claim

the tournament championship.
L-R senior guard Cameron Sealey (Mount Holly, N.C.) led all scorers with 24 points while junior guard Whitley Culler (Mount Airy, N.C.) added 10 points and nine rebounds as the Bears won their third consecutive game.
The Nanooks were led by Autumn Greene's (Lewiston, Idaho) eight points but Alaska-Fairbanks was limited to just 26 percent shooting (18-for-69) for the game including seven percent (one-for-14) from behind the three-point line.
Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore forward Whitney Brinkley (Asheville, N.C.) and freshman guard Jazmine Charles (Lexington, N.C.) also grabbed 15 and 14 rebounds, respectively, as the Bears held a 64-46 advantage on the boards.
L-R was the only team to go undefeated in the tournament while Sealey was named the invitational most valuable player.  Culler also earned all-tournament honors for the Bears.
Lenoir-Rhyne opens South Atlantic Conference play at home on Wednesday against Mars Hill beginning at 6 p.m., in Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.  Alaska-Fairbanks next hosts Alaska-Anchorage on Saturday, December 3, at 3 p.m.
