WHS JV Boys Advance To Finals PDF Print

The Watuaga High JV boys basketball team defeated Hampton, Va., 50-24 Friday night in the opening round of the Miller Insurance/Dr. Pepper JV Invitational Tournament at

Ashe County High in West Jefferson.
The Pioneers led 28-17 at halftime, but they turned up their defensive pressure in the second half and giving up just seven points. Cameron Baker led WHS with 14 points and five rebounds; Trevor Eggers had 11;  Matt Lambert 6 and five boards; Eli Gailes had six points, nine assists and three steals; Jesse Illich had four points, Jonathon Plyler had three points and seven rebounds, Matt Rice had three points, and Zeb Speir had two. Josh Stout led Hampton with 15 points.
The Pioneers (2-0) play Avery at 7 p.m. tomorrow for the tournament championship game. Hampton defeated the WHS JV girls 34-22. The JV girls are 0-2. They play in the consolation finals today at 3 p.m.
