Lenoir-Rhyne University Head Men's and Women's Swimming Coach Paul Schiffel has announced the signing of seven student-athletes for the upcoming 2012-13 season. Of the seven recruits signed, five are
women and two are men.
Leah Watts (Hickory, N.C.) is a three-time CVAC 3A Female Swimmer Of The Year for Fred T. Foard High School. Watts has also been a finalist in the last three NCHSAA 3A State Championship meets and is a USA Swimming Sectional qualifier. Watts swims for the Catawba Valley Aquatic Club and will compete in numerous events for the Bears including freestyle and individual medley.
Michaela Beatty (Hickory, N.C.) is the reigning CVAC 2A Female Swimmer Of The Year from Bandys High School. Beatty also swims for the Catawba Valley Aquatic Club and has been a finalist in the last three NCHSAA 2A State Championship meets. Beatty is likely to compete in the freestyle and butterfly events.
Abigail McRae (Hickory, N.C.) has been a member of the Catawba Valley Aquatic Club for the past 10 years and will compete for Lenoir-Rhyne in the freestyle, backstroke and butterfly events.
Kendell Field (Southern Pines, N.C.) swims for The O'Neal School and the Fort Bragg Fighting Fish under Head Coach Oscar Roverato. Field is a two-time conference swimmer of the year and a three-time high school state finalist.
Samantha Garrett (Fort Bragg, N.C.) is a conference MVP and state qualifier for Massey Hill Classical High School. Garrett also swims for the Fort Bragg Fighting Fish.
Robert Steljes (Statesville, N.C.) is a NCHSAA 3A State finalist for West Iredell High School. Steljes is also a member of the Catawba Valley Aquatic Club who will likely swim the freestyle, breaststroke and individual medley events for L-R.
Robert Armentrout (New Bern, N.C.) is a NCHSAA 4A Region qualifier for New Bern High School. Armentrout is also part of the Twin Rivers YMCA and is coached by Skip Nitardy. A YMCA National qualifier, Armentrout will compete in all the freestyle and backstroke events for the Bears.
Lenoir-Rhyne next competes in the Nova Southeastern Shark Invitational in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The four-day event begins on Thursday, December 15.
