Five members of the Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Soccer Team have been named to the 2011 Daktronics NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region Teams including senior defender Catherine Hauck (Lake Mary, Fla.), who was named region player of the year.
Hauck is a two-time South Atlantic Conference Player Of The Year (2010-11) and a 2010 NCAA Division II All-American who led L-R to its second consecutive conference regular season championship this fall. Currently, Hauck is second on the team in goals (11) and points scored (26). Hauck is a
four-time all-region pick as well.
Joining Hauck on the all-region first team is junior midfielder Carley Griffin (Fresno, Calif.). Griffin, in her first season with the Bears, is tied for second on the squad in goals with 11 and third in points (25).
Senior forward Laura Linehan (San Diego, Calif.), senior midfielder Mariel Mena (Gainesville, Fla.) and senior defender Jessica Schob (Ione, Calif.) all earned second-team all-region accolades.
Linehan, a three-time all-conference and all-region pick, leads Lenoir-Rhyne in goals (12), assists (six) and points (30) this season and is second on L-R's all-time lists for goals scored (47) and points (112).
Mena has tallied two goals, five assists and nine points for the Bears this year while Schob anchors an L-R defense that has limited its opponents to a 1.04 goals-against average and seven shutouts. Both Mena and Schob were first-team all-conference picks in 2011.
Lenoir-Rhyne (17-2-1), ranked No. 13 in NCAA Division II, faces fifth-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State (16-2-3) on Friday in the Southeast Regional Championship in Savannah, Ga., beginning at 11 a.m.
The winner advances to play the winner of the South Region Championship between Tampa (15-5-2) and Lynn (11-6-1) on Sunday at 1 p.m., in the national quarterfinals.
