Lenoir-Rhyne University's Whitley Culler (Mount Airy, N.C.) has been named the South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Player Of The Week, the first of the 2011-12 season, league officials announced today. Culler, a junior guard, averaged 21.0 points and 12.0 rebounds inleading Lenoir-Rhyne to a 2-0 week to start the season with a pair of victories last weekend at home in the L-R Invitational.
Culler finished with 15 points and 13 rebounds in Lenoir-Rhyne's 84-82 season-opening victory in overtime over Pfeiffer Friday.
Culler then poured in a career-high 27 points and 11 rebounds on 12-of-15 shooting to lead Lenoir-Rhyne to a 77-73 win Saturday against Limestone.
Culler, who has been a part of two South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Championships (2008-09 and 2009-10) with the Bears, also shot 60 percent (18-of-30) for the week.
Last year, Culler ranked third on the squad in scoring (8.8 ppg) and fifth in rebounding (5.7 rpg) while starting in 26 of the team's 27 contests.
Lenoir-Rhyne returns to action on Friday when it travels to Mars Hill, N.C., to face Francis Marion in the Biltmore Farms/Mars Hill Classic beginning at 8 p.m.
