ASU Golf Wraps Up Fall Slate PDF Print

Appalachian State University men’s golf completed its fall tournament schedule with a fifth-place finish at the Stetson/CFSC Invitational. The Mountaineers carded a consistent 301-300-302=903 (+39).
Sophomore John Michael Cole (Fayetteville, N.C./Cape Fear) led the Apps with a 72-72-80=224 (+8) to tie for 10th place. The newcomer carded 35 pars and

an eagle over the 54-hole event.
Darren Cook (Boone, N.C./Watauga) finished two strokes back in 14th place at 76-74-76=226 (+10), while Jason Woodall (Yanceyville, N.C./The Elon School) placed 16th at 78-77-73=228 (+12). Cook’s cumulative +5 scoring on the course’s par-four holes ranked 11th at the tournament, while Woodall tied Cole’s mark of 35 pars to tie for fourth in the 43-player field.
Josh Nichols (Kernersville, N.C./Salem Baptist Christian) fired a 75-77-79=231 (+15) to place 20th at the event and Daniel Walsh (Wilkesboro, N.C./West Wilkes)placed 35th with an 81-81-74=236 (+20).
In individual competition, Drew Harris (Lenoir, N.C./Hibriten) matched Nichols in 20th place with an 81-80-70=231 (+15). He holed eight birdies.
Florida Gulf Coast took home the team title with an 870 (+6), well ahead of second-place High Point’s 893 (+29).
Bethune-Cookman and host Stetson tied for third at 899 (+35), just four strokes ahead of Appalachian.
Stetson’s Sam Ryder claimed the individual medal with a 207 (-9), six strokes ahead of High Point’s Chase Wilson.
Head coach Bill Dicus’ squad returns to the High Country for the remainder of the semester. ASU returns to the links in the spring for a challenging slate, which will be released in the coming weeks.
