LRU Women's Soccer To Host NCAA Southeast Regionals PDF Print

The Lenoir-Rhyne University Women's Soccer Team will host one-half of the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Tournament. L-R will be joined by Lees-McRae College and Columbus State University in this year's regional at the Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex in Hickory, N.C.
Sixth-seeded Lees-McRae (13-4-3) and third-seeded Columbus State (15-4-2) will

square off in the first round match on Friday beginning at 6 p.m. The winner will then play second-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne (17-2) on Sunday at 2 p.m.
The Bears will be making their second consecutive trip to the NCAA Division II Playoffs. Last season, L-R advanced to the national quarterfinals before falling to Florida Tech in a penalty kick shootout.
This year, Lenoir-Rhyne is 17-2 and ranked No. 5 in the latest NSCAA NCAA Division II National Poll. The Bears also won the South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Championship and put together a school-record 16-match winning streak during the 2011 season.
Lees-McRae earned an automatic qualifying berth to the playoffs after winning a penalty kick shootout, 4-2, over Belmont Abbey to take home the Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship last Saturday in Banner Elk, N.C. The contest was scoreless after two overtimes.
Columbus State is coming off a 1-0 loss to Armstrong Atlantic State University in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Championship on Sunday and will be playing away from home in the first and second rounds of the national tournament for the first time in five years.
The other half of the Southeast Regional Tournament will take place in Savannah, Ga., and will include fourth-seeded North Georgia (15-2-3), fifth-seeded Wingate (16-3) and top-seeded Armstrong Atlantic State (15-2-3).
The two winners of each region will advance to the third round to be played on Friday, November 18. The national quarterfinal matchup will be on Sunday, November 20, against the champion from the South Regional.
Both the third and quarterfinal rounds will hosted by the highest remaining seed from the Southeast Region. The national semifinals and championships will be played on December 1 and 3 in Pensacola, Florida.
