Mountaineers Fall In National Polls PDF Print
Written by Mike Kelly

The Appalachian State University football team, which suffered a huge upset loss at Furman Saturday afternoon, has fallen in the national polls.
The Mountaineers (6-3 overall; 4-2 Southern Conference) dropped seven spots to tenth in The Sports Network Poll, and they fell

five spots to eighth in the FCS Coaches Poll. Saturday's setback also put a crimp in ASU's record-setting SoCon title hopes.
"We just have win our last two games (against Western Carolina Saturday and Elon)," said ASU coach Jerry Moore. "You never know what might happen between Wofford and Georgia Southern. We just have to start over, and regroup. We have to be ready to play Saturday against Western."
Wofford (7-2; 5-1) and Georgia Southern (8-1; 6-1) play each other Saturday in Spartanburg, SC. If the Terriers win, they would win clinch a tie for the SoCon regular-season championship (their first since sharing the title with ASU in 2007). A loss, and Georgia Southern would have the inside track at its first SoCon title in seven years (they shared the title with Furman in 2004).
The Terriers are ranked ninth this week in both the Coaches Poll and the TSN Poll; the Eagles are ranked third in the Coaches Poll and fourth in the TSN Poll.
Furman is in the Top 25 for the first time since October of last year. The Paladins (6-3; 5-2), riding a three-game winning streak with victories against the Mountaineers, the Terriers and Chattanooga, are ranked 17th in the TSN Poll and 21st in the Coaches Poll. Furman entertains Elon Saturday.
North Dakota State remains No.1. The Bison, which closes out the regular season at home agiainst Youngstown State Saturday, received 143 first-place votes in the TSN Poll and 26 in the Coaches Poll. Montana State was ranked second. The Bobcats received 16 first-place votes in the TSN Poll and two in the Coaches Poll.
Sam Houston State, Georiga Southern and Northern Iowa round out the top five in the TSN Poll; Georgia Southern, Sam Houston State and Northern Iowa round out the top five in the Coaches Poll. The Mountaineers entertain Western Carolina Saturday. Our coverage begins at 1:30 p.m. on AM 1450, WATA.
