Huskies Blitzed By Bandys PDF Print

The Ashe County High football team saw its season come to an end in disappointing fashion Friday night.
The Huskies, coming off their first winning regular season since 2008, actually led Bandys 14-12 at the intermission. A blocked punt that was recovered by Michael Elliot in the end zone for a touchdown, and Sam Gammons 11-yard scoring toss to Tyler Stuart

gave Ashe County (6-6, and the No.6 seed in the Western playoffs) its two-point halftime lead.
But Bandys erupted for 26-unanswered points in the second half and defeated Ashe County 40-14 in the opening round of the Class 2AA state playoffs. Ironically, the Trojans (9-3, and the No.3 seed in the Western playoffs) were held to mere ten-yards rushing in the first half. And their starting quarterback, David Barrow, left the game with a mild concussion. But running back Dominique Young, who was held to ten yards rushing in the first half, scored four times in the third quarter as the Trojans took control of the game.
The Huskies, who had 204 yards passing in the first half, were completely shut down in the second half and they turned the ball over three times. Bandys scored three times off those turnovers.
