The Watauga High boys soccer team will open the Class 4A state playoffs at home Wednesday night. And the Pioneers (15-5-1) will entertain Mooresville (8-9-3), a wild card team from the I-Meck Conference. The Pioneers are the No.2 seedoverall and the No.1 seed from the Northwestern 3A/4A Conference.
Wednesday night's match kicks off at 6 p.m. at Jack Groce Stadium.
The Pioneers are looking for their first postseason win since 2008. Alexander Central (5-14-2), the No.2 seed from the NW3A/4A, opens the state playoffs on the road at West Mecklenberg (6-10) of the MEGA 7 Conference.
In Class 3A, Hickory, the regular-season champion from the NW3A/4A Conference, entertains Franklin; Fred T. Foard (14-9-1), the No.2 seed among the 3A schools in the league, entertains Forest View (11-5-1) from the Big South Conference; Hibriten (9-10-3), the No.3 seed among the 3A schools, travels to R.S. Central (7-8-3) from the Mountain Athletic 3A/2A Conference.
In Class 2A, Ashe County (15-5-1) a wild card team, travels to Mountain Valley Conference foe Wilkes Central. The Eagles (15-4-2) are the No.1 seed among the 2A schools in the MVC; n Class 1A, Avery (10-11-1), a wild card team, travels to West Wilkes (5-15-1), the No.3 seed among the 1A schools in the MVC.
