Hannah Petersen of the Watauga High tennis team was eliminated in the opening round of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Class 4A State Tennis Tournament.
Petersen, who finished fourth at the Western Regional last week at South Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, lost to Hannah Templeton of Greensboro Page in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, in her first-round match at the Millbrook Exchange Tennis Park in Raleigh.
In Class 2A, Haley Maloney and Anna Wooten of Ashe County lost their first-round match in doubles play at the Cary Tennis Center, in Cary, NC. Molly and Abby Black of Maiden defeated Maloney and Wooten in straight sets, 7-6 (7-5 in the tie breaker), 6-1.
