Bobcats Land Three On Conference Carolinas All-Academic Team PDF Print

Three members of the Lees-McRae College women's cross country team have been named to the all-Conference Carolinas Academic team, announced league officials Thursday.
Lindsey Bush (Catawba, N.C.), Crystal Fischer (Greer, S.C.), and Erica Zaveta (Erwinna, Pa.) were named to the conference's all-academic team for the first time

in their careers, as Lees-McRae joined King College as the only schools with three honorees.
Bush has performed well in limited action during her career with the Bobcats, recording a personal-best time of 19:48.41 at the Stampede at the Shoals last season. A native of Catawba, N.C., Bush is majoring in pre-professional biology and plans to attend graduate school in pursuit of a career as a physician's assistant.
Fischer is in the midst of a solid season for the Bobcats, recording several strong finishes at the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational and the Greensboro Invitational, where she finished 22nd and 31st, respectively. A native of Greer, S.C., Fischer posted her best time of the season at the Charlotte Invitational, finishing the 5k race in 20:37. Fischer is majoring in biology and plans to enter the U.S. Army's Interservice Physician Assistant Program following graduation.
Zaveta has put together a strong campaign this fall while splitting time between cross country and cycling, competing in a trio of races with the Bobcats. A native of Erwinna, Pa., Zaveta posted her best time of the season at the Charlotte Invitational, beating her previous mark by more than two minutes as she crossed the line with a mark of 22:23.
Lees-McRae returns to the trials on Saturday, November 5 when the Bobcats travel to Charlotte, N.C. to take part in the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Championships after finishing fourth at the Conference Carolinas Championships last weekend.

 

Anton, Thorgersen named to Conference Carolinas all-Academic team

 

Two members of the Lees-McRae College men's cross country team have been named to the all-Conference Carolinas Academic team, announced league officials Thursday.
Luke Anton (Hendersonville, N.C.) and Sondre Thorbergsen (Tranoy, Norway) have been named to the conference's all-academic team for the second time in their careers, having also earned the honor last season. Lees-McRae's duo is tied with Queens University of Charlotte for the second-most in the conference, as North Greenville University placed four on the team.
Anton has run well this fall, posted several solid finishes while helping the Bobcats record numerous strong performances. A native of Hendersonville, N.C., Anton recorded a season-best time of 28:24 at the Conference Carolinas Championships, while posting his top finish of the fall at the Blue Ridge Open with a 31st-place performance. Anton is majoring in communication arts with a minor in English.
Thorbergsen put together a strong season in limited action with the Bobcats this fall, running in a pair of races and posting a personal-best sixth place finish at the Greensboro Invitational on Sep. 24. The Tranoy, Norway native ran his best time of the season at the Charlotte Invitational, crossing the line with a mark of 26:53. Thorbergsen is majoring in psychology.
Lees-McRae is expected to return six runners from this year's squad, including rising seniors Tyler Dunn (Jasper, Ga.), Connor Gray (Christiansburg, Va.), and Jared Lupton (Nampa, Idaho).
