|ASU Women Tabbed Second In SoCon Preseason Poll|

Appalachian State women's basketball was picked to finish second in the Southern Conference by the league's coaches, the SoCon announced on Thursday.
Elon was picked to finish third with 76 points while defending SoCon Tournament champion Samford was tabbed fourth with 71 points. Davidson picked up 67 points to round out the top five.
Furman was picked sixth with 55 points while Georgia Southern finished in seventh with 51 points. UNCG and Western Carolina were picked in the eighth and ninth spots, respectively, while College of Charleston and Wofford rounded out the preseason poll in the 10th and 11th spots.
Appalachian junior Anna Freeman was named as a preseason all-SoCon selection for the second-consecutive season.
Freeman is ASU's leading returning scorer after averaging 14.2 points per game last year. A 2010-11 all-SoCon selection, Freeman led the conference in steals (100) while finishing in the top five in four other statistical categories.
Chattanooga, Davidson and Elon each placed two players on the preseason all-SoCon team while Furman, Georgia Southern and Wofford tallied one selection each.
Appalachian State plays host to Mars Hill in an exhibition game on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 11 a.m. inside the Holmes Center. The Apps kick off the regular season with a road contest at Virginia on Nov. 11.
