Stuart Scores Twice In 8-3 Loss PDF Print

A pair of goals from freshman Jessi Stuart isn't enough as Appalachian State University field hockey fell to Davidson, 8-3, Wednesday night at Belk Turf Field in Davidson.
The Mountaineers (2-15, 1-4 NorPac) jumped out to a quick lead when senior Hannah Martin scored her first goal of the season off a penalty corner at the 1:09 mark, and was assisted by senior Lauren Kloeppinger and senior Kelly Allaband.  Davidson (9-7, 3-2 NorPac)

responded fast with a goal by Hannah English at the 3:14 mark. 
Wildcats' Annie English netted her fifth and sixth goal of the season to give Davidson 3-1 lead with over 15 minutes left in the first-half.  Davidson's leading scorer, Finley Amato tagged on her 11th goal of the season to increase the Wildcats lead to 4-1.  English scored her second goal of the game in the 19th-minutes off of one of Davidson's six first-half penalty corner opportunities.  Amato scored Davidson's sixth unanswered goal in 30th-mintute to give the Wildcats a 6-1 at halftime.
ASU's Stuart netted her fourth goal of the season to cut ASU's deficit to 6-2 with just under 30 minutes left in the contest.  Davidson's Amato completed the hat-trick at the 47:25 mark to increase their lead to 7-2.  The Mountaineers continued to battle with Stuart netting her second goal of the game and her fifth of the season in the 58th-minute. 
Kristy Helscel sealed Davidson's victory with her first goal of the season at the 66:51 mark.
Mountaineers' senior goalkeeper Bridgette Street played the first 21:35 when junior Sarah Anderson entered the game in relief and played the final 48:25.  Davidson's goalkeepers also split time in the cage with Sarah Fisher playing the first 26:19 and Carolyn Macek played the final 43:41.
Sophomore Anna Long recorded her fifth defensive save of the season in the Apps setback.
The Mountaineers plays their season finale on Saturday when they square off with Longwood at 1 p.m. in Farmville, Va.
