LRU Men's Soccer Whips Brevard, 4-1 PDF Print

The Lenoir-Rhyne University Soccer Team (7-8-1, 3-4) won its second consecutive match Monday evening with a 4-1 victory over Brevard College (3-12-1, 1-7) in a South Atlantic Conference contest at the Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex.

L-R senior midfielder Jordan Holmes (Southport, ENGLAND) scored twice as the Bears improved to 6-0 all-time against the Tornados.
Lenoir-Rhyne got on the board in the 26th minute when freshman midfielder Zach Carles (Leesport, Pa.) received a pass from sophomore defender Sean Rogers (Sheffield, ENGLAND) and finished off a shot from the top left corner of the 18-yard box.
Holmes gave the Bears a 2-0 advantage when he headed the ball into the net off a cross from senior forward Daniel Jones (Wrexham, WALES) just under five minutes before intermission.
Freshman defender Tom Holland (Bolton, ENGLAND) scored the first goal of his career in the 47th minute when he collected a free kick from junior defender Chris Johnson (Liverpool, ENGLAND) and scored from about 15 yards out from the center for a 3-0 lead.
Holmes rounded out the scoring for L-R with a header off another long cross from Jones. Holmes is now tied for the team lead in goals with five.
Scott Schuurman (Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA) scored Brevard's lone goal at the 72:28 mark off a long cross from Jami Uuttu (Sao Paulo, BRAZIL).
Freshman goalkeeper Ashley Peyton-Bruhl (Brackley, ENGLAND) was credited with his first collegiate win for Lenoir-Rhyne, who held a 21-12 advantage in shots taken.
Brevard's Pauli Jussila (Valkeakoski, FINLAND) suffered the loss after registering four saves.
L-R plays at Catawba in a league contest on Wednesday beginning at 7 p.m. Brevard next hosts Catawba on Saturday at 4 p.m.
