Hibriten scored twice in the first half and defeated the Watauga High men's soccer team 2-0 in a Northwestern 3A/4A Conference match in Lenior Monday night.

The Pioneers (14-5-1 overall; 7-3-1 NW3A/4A) outshot the Panthers 19-8, but they couldn't score. The loss also denied WHS a chance to clinch second place in the overall standings. But the Pioneers are still the No.1 seed among the Class 4A schools in league play.
"We really controlled the match," said WHS coach Woody McKay. "I really thought we played well. We had our chances to score, but we couldn't. Things like that happen sometimes."
The Pioneers return home to play St. Stephens Wednesday night in the regular-season finale. A win or a tie and the Pioneers will clinch second place.
WHS won the JV game, 3-1. Matt Hall, Justin Hall and Canyon Mueller scored for WHS; Hunter Martin had two assists and Vincente Montelongo had an assist.

The Pioneers will host a first-round state playoff game next Wednesday, November 2. The playoff pairings will be released by next Monday, October 31.
