UPDATE: Fires Threaten Trailer as Tree Falls on Power Lines PDF Print

Cove Creek has been called to a flare-up of a fire that caused a lot of concern yesterday evening.  A tree falling in the Phillips Branch area downed BREMCO power lines and started two separate woods fires that caused Cove Creek, Beaver Dam and the State Forest Service to be dispatched. BREMCO crews rushed to the scene to take down the power

and secure the lines to allow safe access to the fires for firemen. Some fire units had already worked their way around the downed lines, and worked to head off the fire threatening a trailer near the top of a hill.  Renee Whitener of BREMCO said the outage that resulted affecting nearly 800 members, but as dusk fell on the effort, a large chunk of that service area was restored, leaving some 60 or so customers out of power until later into the night. Fire crews contained the blazes and mopped up late into the night and returned this morning to a flare-up.
