Watauga High Athletics Director Tom Wright has announced that the Pioneers volleyball team will tip off their second-round state playoff match with A.C. Reynolds at 6 p.m. at Lentz-Eggers Gym
The Pioneers (19-7), the No.1 seed from the Northwestern 3A/4A Conference, are riding

a four-game winning streak; the Rockets (14-10), the No.2 seed from the Mountain Athletic 3A/4A Conference, defeated WHS in a regular-season match way back on August 25 at Roberts Gymnasium in Asheville.
The Pioneers let a 2-0 lead slip away and lost the match in five sets. Tuesday's winner will play either North Mecklenburg or Lake Norman in the sectional finals Thursday night.
If the Pioneers advance Tuesday night, they would host again on Thursday. Remember, the Pioneers, who lost to Lake Norman in the sectional finals last season, have made it to the sectional title game five consecutive times.
In other games, in Class 4A, Alexander Central travels to McDowell;in Class 3A, St. Stephens entertains Erwin; Fred T. Foard is at Enka and Hickory, which has only three wins but is a No.3 seed among the 3A schools in the NW3A/4A, travels to Franklin. The Red Tornadoes defeated Patton in the first round Saturday. In Class 1A, Avery travels to Lake Norman Charter.
